Rawalpindi: Supporters and leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a protest outside the Islamabad High Court after a scheduled hearing on the sentence suspension pleas of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million case was postponed.
The case was listed to be heard today by a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif. However, the hearing could not proceed due to Justice Muhammad Asif being on leave. Consequently, the court's cause list was cancelled.
Following the postponement, members of PTI's legal team, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Aleema Khan, Barrister Salman Safdar, and Niazullah Niazi, went to the office of the secretary to the Acting Chief Justice.
Meanwhile, outside the court premises, PTI workers and leaders began a protest against the delay. Protesters chanted slogans and expressed their dissatisfaction with the adjournment of the hearing.
Prominent PTI figures present at the protest included Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, Punjab Chief Organiser Aliya Hamza, and Samabia Tahir among others.
It is worth noting that the sentence suspension petitions of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were scheduled for hearing before the division bench headed by the Acting Chief Justice.
